- The local Boy Scout Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) will be held on Saturday, October 19th starting at 4:00 p.m. and ending on Sunday the 20th at 4:00 p.m. The event is being held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Magnolia and Jackson. JOTA is dedicated to Radio and Internet Communications with Scouts around the world. There is no charge to attend.
- Mike K6MJM is the coordinator needs our help. He would like to set up 10 stations for communications, 6 radio and 4 internet and needs HF and DMR operators with equipment for the event. Those who volunteer can camp for free, will be fed, and will get recognized for their help.
- Merit Badge counselors are also needed. An area will be setup for Scouts to connect with and begin working on their Merit Badges.
- If you have questions or wish to volunteer you can reach Michael at Michael@familymcbride.net or Marlene at firstname.lastname@example.org

Michael KM6MJM, a new ham and scout leader is the Control Operator for the K2BSA/6 for an event being held on September 6th at the LDS Church on Jackson and California Streets. He would like to introduce Scouts to amateur radio and has asked permission to use the W6TJ repeater from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm for contacts to talk with Scouts.
He has asked for a few of our members to be available to talk to the Scouts on the air. This is an open to the public event and our group has been invited to set up a booth. The only radio they have is a Baofeng HT. If anyone is interested in attending and bringing some basic equipment, I can let Michael know.
Let’s support this effort and stand by to talk to the scouts and help encourage them to become future ham operators.
Please limit your use of the repeater during the time slot of 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6.
This is a “fair” with several vendors and not just a Scouting or ham event. Volunteers who have offered to attend and bring ham equipment are:
- Ted KM6AYC
- Juan KM6CFH
- Marlene KK6CTX
Club members are asked to be available on the W6TJ repeater to talk to the scouts during the event (Sept. 6 between 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.)
